Okay so we are always hearing that honesty is the best policy, right? Well, no it’s not; at least not all of the time. Remember that there are always exceptions to the rules and below you will find three exceptions to this one. While being honest should be best, there are times when you need to either bend the truth or simply word things carefully to avoid hurting someones feeling. There are ways to get your point across, without having to hurt the feelings of the one you love or like.
Rule #1: Never tell her or even hint that she is gaining weight!
If you even hint to her, that she is getting fat she will feel that you are not attracted to her. I know that’s not what you said, but that is how she is going to take it. Rather then commenting on her weight gain you can suggest that you both start working out together or going for evening walks together. This way it comes across as you wanting to spend time together rather then you telling her “baby your fat”.
Rule #2: Never compare her to your mother!
Your girlfriend/wife is not your mother and she will never be happy with you comparing her to your mom. Okay great, you’re a mommas boy and you think your mother is perfect. Guess what, you’re a man now and in a grown up relationship. It’s important that you understand that she is your girl not your mother. If you want to suggest for her to do something your mom used to, make the suggestion without mentioning a word about your mom. If you tell her well my mom used to_____, she is bound to take it as she’s not good enough.
Rule #3: Don’t criticize her!
Regardless to what she did wrong you should never criticize her for it. You can most definitely make suggestions to her but don’t criticize her. By suggesting other ways of doing things you come across as being helpful rather then hurtful. People make mistakes since no one is perfect but you must remember that just as much as a man’s ego is important so is a woman’s. If you criticize a woman you are bound to make her feel unworthy or not good enough which is why it’s crucial for you to give helpful friendly and positive suggestions rather then negative comments and insults.
